Looking for a Hevy alternative?
People usually start looking for a Hevy alternative when logging is easy but deciding what to do next still falls on them.
You plan it yourself: you build routines or save one from Hevy's library. Hevy Trainer (Pro) generates a program from a fixed set of questions.
Nobody runs the session: Hevy shows tips, demo animations and a rest timer on screen. When a machine is taken or a set feels off, you work it out in the app.
You type every set: you enter your reps, tap to complete each set, then read the charts.
Amrap handles all three with you: your coach builds a plan from a conversation, talks you through every set in your ear and keeps track of your progress as you say your reps. If you only want a free log with your friends in it, that's what Hevy does.
How your plan is built and adapted
In Hevy you build routines yourself or save one from its free library. With Pro, Hevy Trainer asks about your goal, experience, equipment, schedule and focus muscle, and an algorithm generates the program. To change it, you replace or exclude exercises from a menu, picking from four suggested alternatives or the full library.
Amrap builds your program from a conversation. You explain your goals, injuries, gym setup and the exercises you like or hate in your own words, as you would to a personal trainer. When something changes, you tell your coach:
a machine is taken, and it picks an alternative that works the same muscles in the same way
you're training at a different gym this month, and it builds a program for that setup
you ask for a change that could hurt your progress, and it pushes back and explains why
What happens during the workout
Hevy gives you a workout screen with your numbers from last time, an automatic rest timer and demo animations, and Trainer adds small tips. You follow along on screen and decide when to move on.
With Amrap, your coach runs the session like a 1:1 personal training session. It tells you what's next in your ear, logs your reps when you say them out loud and adjusts your weight for the next set. In Hands-Free mode you don't need to tap to talk, so your phone can stay on the bench or the floor, and the coach plays over your own music.
How your progress is tracked
Tracking is Hevy's core: graphs for every exercise, personal records and monthly reports. With Trainer, it also adjusts your working weights based on what you type in.
In Amrap, you say your reps and your coach keeps the record. It uses that history to apply progressive overload within each session and from week to week, telling you when to go heavier and by how much. It remembers your training history, so you never re-explain it, and it checks in if you skip the gym.

Hevy has a free version. Hevy Pro, which includes Hevy Trainer, costs $2.99 a month, $23.99 a year or $74.99 once for lifetime access, and monthly and yearly plans renew automatically.
Amrap is priced against coaching: online coaching from a human usually runs $200 to over $500 a month.

Platforms & integrations
Amrap is on iPhone, with Android coming soon, and works with AirPods or any headphones. Wearable integrations are coming soon; your coach already learns how each set felt and how you're recovering by talking with you.
Hevy runs on iPhone, iPad, Android and the web. It has Apple Watch and Wear OS apps, exports workouts to Apple Health and Health Connect, and syncs workouts to Strava.
When Hevy might be a better fit
Hevy runs on iPhone, Android and the web, and lets you log sets from your Apple Watch or Wear OS watch. The free version has no ads, and you can follow friends and compare lifts. If you want a low-cost log and you're happy to run your own training, Hevy is built for that.
Switching from Hevy: what to expect
Amrap doesn't import your Hevy history. Your first conversation with your coach covers your goals, gym setup, injuries and what you've been training, and it builds your program from there. Your weights settle in over the first few sessions as the coach learns what you can lift.
FAQ
Is Amrap better than Hevy?
Yes, if you want a coach: a plan built around you through conversation, someone running each workout in your ear, and progress tracked for you that shapes the next session. Hevy is better if you want a low-cost log, an Android or web app, or a social feed with your friends.
What's the best Hevy alternative?
If you like Hevy but want guidance, Amrap is the closest step up. It builds a program that's yours and changes it when you ask, coaches you through every set by voice, and tracks your reps so it can adjust your weights. If you want generated workouts to follow on your own, read our Amrap vs Fitbod comparison.
Can I log workouts by voice in Hevy?
Hevy's own pages describe logging by typing your reps and tapping to complete each set, or logging from an Apple Watch or Wear OS watch. Voice logging isn't documented. In Amrap's Hands-Free mode you log workouts hands-free by saying your reps out loud.
Does Hevy have an AI coach?
Hevy Trainer, part of Hevy Pro, generates a program and adjusts your weights. Hevy says it runs on an algorithm and doesn't use AI, and you set it up with a questionnaire. Amrap is an AI coach you can talk to, before and during your workout.
Does Amrap adjust my plan as I progress?
Yes. As you log your sets, your coach learns what you can do and tells you when to go heavier, both during a session and from one week to the next. When you finish a program, it checks whether your goals have changed and builds the next one from your progress.
Is Hevy free?
Yes, Hevy has a free version with no ads, limited to 4 routines, 7 custom exercises and 3 months of graph history. Hevy Pro removes those limits and adds Hevy Trainer. If you want a coach instead, Amrap has a 7-day, 100% free trial, no credit card needed.
Can I import my Hevy history into Amrap?
No. You tell your coach about your training in your first conversation, and it calibrates your weights over your first sessions.
